I'm currently an MTS on Oracle's Globally Distributed Database team.
I will complete my Master of Science at Georgia Tech (specializing in Machine Learning) while continuing my work at Oracle. I'm an alum of Cornell University, where I graduated in May 2024 with the equivalence of an MEng (30 graduate credits and a Master's Project), a B.S. in Computer Science, and a minor in Operations Research Information Engineering.
My main interests are in Distributed Systems, Systems Infrastructure, Databases, Cloud, High-Performance Computing, and Deep Learning.
Life in Pittsburgh
I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. I always had an interest in technology and got my own laptop in first grade. Throughout elementary school I would occasionally be brought out of class to fix a computer problem in another classroom. In middle school I gained a strong interest in programming video games. Once I was in highschool, I started taking Computer Science courses and knew I wanted to go into a field that utilized programming.
Moving to Ithaca
In my Senior year of highschool, I was accepted into Cornell University. My plan was to graduate within 4 years with a BS in Computer Science, an MEng in Computer Science, and a minor in Operations Research Information Engineering.
Working at Carnegie Mellon University
After my Sophomore year of college, I worked at Carnegie Mellon University at their Software Engineering Institute as a DevOps Engineer Intern. The company is a Federally Funded Research & Development Center that contributes to Department of Defense software operations. During the summer, I learned and utilized a plethora of DevOps tools I had never used before while also improving my existing skills in other tools and languages. After the summer, my contract was extended for an entire year. I ended up working there remotely until the next summer.
Working at Gecko
After my Junior year of college, I worked at Gecko Robotics as a Software Engineer Intern. The company is a medium sized start-up revolutionizing Non-Destructive Testing of infrastructure. While there, I worked on the Robot Controls team. During the summer I was able to hone my software engineering skills, and I drastically improved as a Software Engineer.
Going to VLDB 2023
During my time at Cornell, I joined the Cornell Database Group led by Immanuel Trummer, where I worked on the project "ADOPT". Our research was accepted into VLDB 2023, and I had the honor to represent our paper in Vancouver.
Becoming a TA
During my time at Cornell, I became a Teaching Assistant. I was nominated twice for the Course Staff Exceptional Service Award and ultimately received it in 2024. I taught Intro Physics Lab in Fall 2022, Object Oriented Programming in Spring 2023 & 2024, and Databases in Fall 2023. I led exam proctoring, created and ran entirely new review sessions for classes with hundreds of students, and taught students through discussion sections and online Q&A.
BOOM Project Fair
Every year Cornell holds a CS project fair, BOOM, containing 32 cutting-edge student projects. In 2023, my project Cornell Meetup was accepted into BOOM. In 2024, my Master's Project, SPEED, was accepted into BOOM.
Extracurriculars
Outside of my coursework, research, and projects, I also tried my best to contribute to the Cornell Community and local Ithaca Community. For all 4 years at Cornell I was part of the Cornell Tradition Fellowship, a scholarship program where every member does 100+ hours of volunteering and 100+ hours of working every school year. During this program I volunteered at many different Cornell and local events. I also was the Lead Programmer and Secretary of a club named the Cornell Engineering & Entertainment Design Club. The club creates entertaining projects for events on campus such as drink-making robots.
Graduating
In May 2024 I graduated from Cornell with a Bachelor of Science in CS and a Minor in ORIE. My original plan of also obtaining a Master's didn't completely pan out due to financial constraints; however, I graduated with 30 graduate credits including a Master's Project. This is essentially the Master's degree without paying $70,000+. In my eyes, I achieved my goal and graduated with the full knowledge and skill of a Master student to succeed in industry.
Working at Oracle
After graduating, I moved to Redwood City, California, to work at Oracle as a Member of Technical Staff on their Globally Distributed Database Team. I specifically work on the Shard Native Replication (SNR) sub-team. My specialization throughout my time at Cornell was in Distributed Systems, Databases, and the Cloud; so, this role is a perfect match. I strongly look forward to continue working with the team.
Attending Georgia Tech
Starting in the Spring Semester of 2025, I will attend Georgia Tech to complete my Master of Science in CS while continuing my work at Oracle. I plan to specialize in Machine Learning.
Into the Unknown
I don't know what the future holds for me, but I continue to be excited for what comes next!
